Mary Tolan, Founder and CEO
Mary Tolan is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Accretive Health, the leading end-to-end revenue processing company for healthcare providers. Tolan leads a team of seasoned industry professionals focused on revolutionizing patient access and revenue cycle processes for healthcare providers. Accretive Health offers healthcare providers a full-accountability managed service to close significant financial leakage, accelerate cash collections and balance sheet strength, as well as improve labor productivity and processing costs. Accretive also provides the critical infrastructure for health care providers to take total population health accountability to improve quality outcomes while reducing total cost of care. The company focuses on improving the financial strength of healthcare providers to support their excellence in healthcare delivery.
Prior to assuming her current role, Tolan was a leading partner at Accenture, the $16 billion global management consulting, technology services and outsourcing company. She was the Group Chief Executive of a $2.3 billion global operating group. In this role, Ms. Tolan led a team of 11,000 professionals and her team worked with over 70% of the global Fortune 500 companies in these industries. She built the largest and fastest growing managed services business globally in the meter-to-cash revenue cycle for the utility industry. Ms. Tolan was then tapped to export this success to other industry verticals across the firm as the key growth vehicle for the enterprise. She also played a leadership role in taking Accenture public in 2001, one of the largest offerings on the NYSE that year. Before serving as Group Chief Executive of Accenture’s Resources operating group, Ms. Tolan was managing partner of Growth & Strategy. As the Chief Strategist for Accenture, she was one of the key designers of the company’s reinvention agenda.
Ms. Tolan has received several honors and awards, including being named a Distinguished Alumni of the University of Chicago, an award recipient of E & Y Entrepreneur of the Year and Crain’s Top 40 Under 40.
She serves on the Council for the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago, and on the Board of Trustees for the University of Chicago and Loyola University as well as on the Board of the Lyric Opera.
