Position Profile
Job Description:
The Physician Advisory Services (Accretive PAS®) at Accretive Health performs some of the “mid-office" functions that increase the revenue cycle for the hospitals and medical systems we contract with. The physicians review medical records using literature supported, evidenced based clinical judgment along with the criteria used by payers to determine the best classification for each case referred to them for consultation. Frequently used classifications are “inpatient", “observation", and “outpatient." Each classification determines a level of reimbursement to the hospital. Incorrect classifications may result in underpayments or overpayments to hospitals. The Accretive PAS® physicians are available to the hospital case managers to review cases as they occur and offer advice on the best classification for each patient to optimize reimbursements, with the goal to eliminate underpayments. Individually, the physicians review concurrent case consults and submit a recommendation within specific timeframes based on the type of case. In addition, Accretive PAS® will appeal any denial that occurs as a result of recommendations made. Each physicians’ time is dedicated to the referrals as they arrive, and the physicians communicate with and are available 24 hours a day/365 days of the year for telephone consultation with case managers, administrators, and physicians at each of the hospitals.
As our program continues and expands, Accretive PAS® continues to engage with many hospitals educating their staff for the review and audit process, as well as assuring them of the successes that have already been achieved by Accretive Health and the Accretive PAS® team when appealing reimbursement denials
